The purpose of the paper was, through the thinking method of the philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, to find out the essence of lifelong education, to suggest the spirituality as an essence of lifelong education, and to examine the fact that the spirituality would be necessary desires and issues in the future lifelong education world. For this, three research questions was suggested including Nietzsche’s way of question regarding the essence of lifelong education; the relationship between the will of lifelong education and spirituality; and the reason why the spirituality would be issues of future lifelong education. the paper firstly discusses Nietzsche’s unique questioning method during the modern philosophy world, which is connected to the questioning method of lifelong education, and then discusses the problem of spirituality that the lifelong education should search for. The paper then claims that the spirituality has been neglected in the lifelong education although it had been emphasized from the beginning of lifelong education history. Finally the paper discusses that the problem of spirituality would be an important trend because of the following three macro socio-cultural changes: changing from the type of ‘to have’ to ‘to be’; demographic change moving to over 40s; egoistic altruism trend; and the Market3.0 emphasizing on meaning. Based onthe three social changes, the paper then discusses that the spirituality, highly valued on non-material aspects of life, would be an important task in the future Korean lifelong education world.
