청동기시대 편인석부의 편년은 유물 그 자체의 시간적 위치보다는 새로운 기종 혹은 형식의 출현이 가 지는 의미가 중요하다. 편인석부는 일반적으로 목기를 제작하기 위한 가공구로 추정되며, 목기 제작 기술의 발달은 청동기시대 후기에 본격화되는 수전 농경과 관련이 깊다고 알려져 있다. 본고는 동남해안지역 편인석부의 기종을 분류하고 형식학-형식학적속성분석법과 순서배열보충법-을 통해 각 기종을 편년하여 형식 변천과 더불어 새로운 기종의 출현 시점을 검토하였다. 편인석부의 편년은 주상편인석부와 유구석부의 출현을 획기로 ⅠㆍⅡㆍⅢ기로 구분 되었으며, 각 획기가 가지는 의미를 동남 해안지역 청동기시대 문화상과 비교ㆍ검토하였다. 주상편인석부가 출현하는 Ⅱ기의 시작은 수전 농경의 개시적 성격을 보이는 전기 후반이다. 주상편인 석부의 출현과 발달은 후기 농경 사회로의 진입을 위한 목기 제작 공정의 정교화ㆍ체계화 과정과 관련 있는 것으로 보았다. 유구석부가 출현하는 Ⅲ기의 시작은 후기 전반으로 동남해안지역 환호의 출현과 병행 하는 시기이다. 유구석부와 환호의 출현이 직접적으로 관련성이 있는지는 모르겠으나, 수장 혹은 유력개인의 등장으로 인해 계층화된 사회 구조 형성의 산물이라 할 수 있는 환호 출현의 사회적 배경에 주목하였다. 수장이 지배하는 계층화된 취락 집단 내에서 목기를 제작하는 무리 중 작업 주도자의 존재를 가정 하였다. 청동기시대 후기에 유구석부의 수량이 주상편인석부에 비해 현저히 떨어지는 양상을 근거로 유구 석부가 이러한 작업주도자의 상징적 실사용 도구였을 가능성을 열어두었다.

영어 초록

Significance of recording adze chronologically of the Bronze Age lies in the emergence of the new type and form, more so than the time position of the remains. In general, adze is presumed to be processing tool for producing wooden vessel. Advancement of the wooden vessel production technologies is closely related with the paddy field farming that emerges in a full-fledged manner during the latter end of the Bronze Age. This paper examined the timing when the new type emerged along with the transformation of the form of each adze type by recording each type chronologically by classifying type of adze in the south-east coastal region and by utilizing Analysis methods for Typology-Typological Attributes and Supplement Seriation methods. Recording adze chronologically distinguishes the emergence of the Pillar-form adze and the Grooved adze into Phases I, II and III. Significance of each phase is compared and reviewed in line with the Bronze Age culture flow of the south-east coastal region. Phase II when the Pillar-form adze emerges starts during the latter end of the former part when the first set of attributes of paddy field farming are manifested. Emergence and advancement of the Pillar-form adze are related to the process of elaborating and systemizing the wooden vessel production process for entering into the agricultural society during the latter end. Meanwhile Phase III when the Grooved adze emerges starts during the entire latter end, and this is the period when the emergence of south-east coastal region Surrounding Moat is carried out in conjunction. Although it is difficult to find direct relations between the emergence of Grooved adze and Surrounding Moat, the focus is on the social background for the emergence of Surrounding Moat which can be considered the “fruit” of social structure formation which was stratified due to the emergence of head. Among the groups that produce wooden vessel among the communal groups that were stratified and that were governed by head, existence of a leader who leads work was assumed. Based on the phenomenon in which share of the Grooved adze falls significantly lower than that of the Pillar-form adze among the Grooved adze and the Pillar-form adze carried out in conjunction during the latter end of the Bronze Age, the possibility that the Grooved adze was a symbolic tool for the leader was left open.
