Grid-like Vision
In 1969, Leonard Kleinrock, one of the chief scientists of the original ARPA project which seeded the Internet, wrote:
"As of now, computer networks are still in their infancy, but as they grow up and become sophisticated, we will probably see the spread of "computer utilities", which, like present electric and telephone utilities, will service individual homes and offices across the country“
Despite major advances in hardware and software systems over the past 35 years, we are yet to realise this vision. How far are we still from delivering computing as a utility?
Let us look into the ICT evolution and project the future.
