The title of given passage is “Some Psychological Consequences of the Anatomical Distinction Between the Sexes”. As the title states, this writing of Freud is originally aimed to talk about the physical, anatomical difference (or distinction) between the sexes. However, is he really talking about “distinction” or he is just advocating the superiority of men with the explanation of anatomical difference? I definitely think that the latter is what Freud has done.
Of course, it is meaningful that Freud is the first person who attempted to explain the “difference” between the sexes, since all the scholars before him explained their theories on the assumption that human being is only limited to men. Therefore, I admit that Freud’s attempt to explain the sexual difference in terms of anatomical distinction is a great progress – at least, he regards women as a human being. However, do his theories, especially his explanation of different Oedipus complex progress of each sex and its following psychological consequences, really explain the distinction?
