3.2 고찰이번 실험은 현미경을 통한 금속조직실험이다. 금속 조직으로는 순철, 연강, 회주철, 45C, 구상흑연주철 이렇게 5개의 시편을 가지고 5명이서 한 조가 되어 마운팅부터 사진 인화까지 하게 되었다.
우선 절단된 시편을 각각 받고 마운팅을 이용해서 조직검사용 시편을 만들었는데 이번 실험에는 콜드마운팅을 이용해서 만들었다. 레진과 하드너를 조교선생님의 지시에 따라 섞어서 시편을 제작하였는데 금방 단단하게 굳어지는 것에 놀라웠다.
그리고 마운팅할 때 시편이름과 자신의 이름을 썼다.
완성한 시편을 가지고 사포와 물을 이용하여 습식연마를 했다. 연마를 하는 이유는 절단시 열에 의하여 변형된 조직 및 산화잔류물 등을 제거하며 시편의 표면을 평활하게 만드는 작업이다. 연마시에 시편의 균형과 압력을 잘 조절해야만 나중에 시편 관찰시에 보다 정확한 관찰을 할 수 있다. 사포는 #240부터 #1200까지 연마했다. 처음에 연마를 우습게 보고 빠른속도로 한 다음 폴리싱으로 넘어간다음 현미경으로 관찰을 해보니 큰 스크래치로 인해 다시 연마로 돌아가는 수고를 했다.
스크래치가 있을 경우나 평행이 맞지않을 경우 나중에 현미경으로 조직을 관찰할 때 빛의 굴곡으로 빛이 반사되어 조직을 관찰이 어렵게 되기 때문이다. 정마를 제대로 한 다음에 폴리싱으로 넘어 갔다. 폴리싱은 기계의 회전을 이용하기 때문에 쉬운 작업이라 생각을 했고 Al2O3를 이용하여 시편의 표면을 매끄럽고 깨끗하게 정마를 하였다. 정마시에는 연마와 비슷한데 시편의 압력과 정마기계의 회전을 잘맞추고 알루미나를 적절히 뿌려주면서 세척을 반복하여야 한다. 처음에 이 내용을 정확히 숙지않해서 정마 부분에서 오랜 시간이 걸렸다. 그 다음 정마가 끝나고 깨끗이 세척 후에 현미경으로 관찰한 후 표면이 매끄럽게 나왔기 때문에 바로 에칭으로 넘어 갔다. 에칭은 각시편마다 용액에 담그는 시간이 다르다.
