1. Abstract
Alq3 / Rubrene has been widely used as an emitter for organic electroluminescent devices. Using the UV-Visible spectrophotometer, we investigated the absorption spectra properties of Alq3 / Rubrene. Also we calculated the band gap from the absorption spectra and knew approximately which transition to occur through the molar absorptivity. Our experimental result shows that the band gap of Alq3 / Rubrene has different values and it have inherent absorption spectra.

The molar absorptivities for peaks associated with excitation to n→π* state are generally low value and has the longer wavelength (low energy). In case of π→π* transitions, ε values normally are high and it has the short wavelength (high energy).
Following the experimental result, the 370nm region of Alq3 and the 500nm of Rubrene that have low molar absorptivity value are considered the n→π* transitions. Although the absorption peaks of under 300nm is not smooth, this region is presumed the π→π* transitions. Due to ethanol used in solvent has the cutoff wavelength of 210nm, the absorption spectra of Alq3 / Rubrene is not affected by solvent.
