본문내용
The definition of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques (Klug 2006). The main engineering technique is recombinant DNA technology, using DNA from different organisms and combining them into one molecule to create a new set of genes, and then the newly created genes are transferred to an organism (Klug 2006). Scientist usually insert foreign genes for specifically desired traits, such as, cold tolerance, insect resistance, drug production, or increase in immune system (Lauber 2007). GMOs range from corn, tomato, strawberry to GloFish, recombinant growth hormones, and biofuels. GMOs is harmful and not beneficial because it can bring economical, environmental and health problems (Weasel 2008).
