In the paper “Unraveling the Model Minority Stereotype”, Stacey J. Lee focused on an ethnographic study of Asian-American students. She observed 82 Asian-American students and how model minority stereotype affects to those students. Lee examined Asian-American students through observations and interviews by categorizing four groups: Korean-identified students, Asian-identified students, New Wavers, and Asian-American identified students. From the each group, Lee found its specific perspective on education, class, gender, culture, and politics. According to Lee (1996), Korean-identified students “rejected a pan-ethnic identity as Asian, and worked hard to distinguish themselves from other Asian Americans at the school.” Asian-identified students described themselves “as model minorities also informed their attitudes toward other groups of people of color.” (Lee, 1996) New Wavers were the students who “argued that Asians needed to stick together because they were less politically
