Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC)
Invented by Brian o’Regan and Michael Gratzel at UC Berkley.
Manufacturing of DSSC is simple, mostly low cost, and incorporate environmentally friendly materials.
They have a good efficiency under low flux of sunlight.
However, a major drawback is the temperature sensitivity of the liquid electrolyte and low efficiency at high flux light(about 12%).
Hence a lot of research is going on to improve the electrolyte’s performance and cell stability.
