1. Introduction
Shim (2014) writes, “language in use, utterance is the product of the interaction among interlocutors to accomplish social functions and negotiate social meanings at a micro-level intertwined with the whole complex macro social-historical situation in which it is embedded, thus no utterance in general can be attributed to the speaker exclusively (Bakhtin, 1981, 1986).” She also cites Gumperz (2001)’s claim to define a language as: “language is regarded as a set of rules enabling speakers to translate information from the outside world into sound.”
Code-switching is a sociolinguistic phenomenon that occurs when linguistic elements are involved with social requirements. Wardhaugh (2006) mentions Gal (1988, p.247)’ definition of code-switching as follows : “codeswitching is a conversational strategy used to establish, cross or destroy group boundaries; to create, evoke or change interpersonal relations with their rights and obligations.” As a very useful social skill (Wardhaugh, 2006), code-switching is discovered in a variety of discursive contexts.
