Introduction
1. Brief description of the Natural Approach
1) Learning Theories
The Natural Approach was developed in the 1980's by Tracy Terrell and Stephen Krashen. They developed the method based 5 theory of learning. The theory consists of the acquisition/ learning theory, the natural order hypothesis, the input theory that emphasizes comprehensible i+1 input, the natural order hypothesis and the affective filter hypothesis.
The natural approach is based on the idea that second language learning process is similar to the way a baby acquire he/ her first language. Therefore, the goal of Natural Approach is to develop basic communicative skills, and oral language development (speaking & listening) was expected to come before reading and writing. The natural approach focuses on content rather than form and emphasizes input and affective aspect of students, so overt error correction, dialogue or pronunciation drills are avoided. For that reason, the Natural approach is more useful to teach beginners to intermediates.
