LANGUAGE, LEARNING, AND TEACHING
1) Learning a second language is a long and complex undertaking. If we look at the teaching process as the facilitation of learning, we can teach a foreign language successfully.
2) Current Issues in Second Language Acquisition(SLA)
a) learner characteristics (who?)
: native languages, levels of education, and socioeconomic characteristics, intellectual capacities; these are the crucial factors affecting both learners' successes in acquiring a foreign language and teacher's capacities to enable learners to achieve that acquisition.
2) Linguistic Factors (what?)
a) What is it that the learner must learn?
b) What is language? What is communication? What are the relevant differences between a learner's first and second language?
c) The language teacher needs to understand the system and functioning of the second language and the differences between the first and second language of the learner.
