Cartesian coordinates system is the most common representation used. It can have a rectilinear 2D (x, y) or 3D (x, y, z) coordinates. For the 3D coordinates the three axes are orthogonal, meaning that they have right angles to each other. Let’s look at the case of cartesian coordinates of the plane, and cartesian coordinates of three-dimensional space.Cartesian coordinates in a plane have x-coordinate axis and y-coordinate axis. The origin is where the intersection of the two axes occur, and the points that exist on the plane are written as (x, y). The number x is referred to as the x coordinate of x component, and it represents the distance that is signed from the origin along the x axis. If x is positive the x coordinate will specify the distance to the right of the y axis, and if x is negative the x coordinate will locate on the left side of the y axis. The below model is the point which coordinates (-3, 2). This means that 3 units moved left along the x axis and 2 units moved up the y axis compared to the original point.
