What is justice? Justice can be defined in various ways. Simply put, justice is about fairness. Differentformsof justice exist, such asneed-based justice, justice as equity,and many other types. Justice is a central trope in Michael J. Sandel’s “Justice: What’s the right thing to do?”
The common conception of justice is that all individuals have the right to be treated with fairness and dignity. According to the Bible, justice is a term used to describe individuals living in right relationship with God. Also, biblical justice is the act of loving neighbors as people love themselves(Taylor).The Bible further states that God will reward the righteous and punish the sinners.
However, Sandel presents a unique outlook on justice. He offers variousconcepts of justice. The first concept that he introduces is Jeremy Bentham’s utilitarianism. Bentham argues that ethical decisions are based on generating the greatest happiness for the largest number of people.
