본문내용
In the past, war was what threatened human lives the most. So, people invented better weapons, built shelters and bunkers to protect themselves from the catastrophe. However, war is no longer a threat to most of the people living in the contemporary world. In his speech, Bill Gates said, “If anything kills over 10 million people in the next few decades, it’s most likely to be a highly infectious virus rather than a war. Not missiles, but microbes.”
Some people might argue that people are less vulnerable to diseases today than in the past. But I would say that viruses are more threatening today than ever before. This is because we know the fact that they exist, and that some of them have extremely high death rates.
In the speech “The next outbreak? We are not ready” by Bill Gates (2015), he said that we were lucky that Ebola did not spread through air and that the symptoms showed up quickly that people were bedridden when they were contagious.
