To calculate the surface tension, to understand the principle of surface tension and capillary rise, and to investigate the properties of materials with high surface tension.
Ⅱ. Background Information
How to measure the surface tension?
There are many method to measure surface tension: Powder contact method, Capillary rise method, Du Nouy ring method, Pendant drop method, Spinning drop method, Dynamic Wilhelmy method, Drop volume method, Wilhelmyplate method, Sessile drop method, Bubble pressure method etc.
Among them, In this experiment, we focus on capillary rise method and Du Nouy ring method.
Du Nouy ring method: It is method of the measuring the surface tension of the liquid. It measures the detachment force. And errors can occur due to internal and planar curvatures require some modifications.
