Pokémon is a gaming brand made in Japan by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company in 1996. It allows players to collect, train, battle, and interact with fictional characters. The brand has been expanding rapidly, producing endless kinds of merchandise and media content. It is even frequently licensed to other brands. It ranked 23rd in the ‘Top License List’ made by License Global in 2018, with its retail sales adding up to 2.98 billion dollars. The best grade the brand has made so far solely with its games is with the Red/Green/Blue series, with a global sales volume of over 31.38 million units. With these measures, it is undeniable that Pokémon is one of the most influential brands around the world.To analyze Pokémon’s current brand positioning, its target market, Points of Difference, Points of Parity, and Multiple Frames of Reference have to be considered.
