From “Dolly,” the first successfully cloned sheep in 1996, to Proposition 71, the newly passed California bill supporting a therapeutic cloning research center, rapid progress in cloning technology has made cloning a hot issue. In nine years since Dolly was born, the rate of progress in cloning technology has accelerated. It is time to seriously consider the advantages and disadvantages of both reproductive and therapeutic cloning before continuing forward. There are many opinions that both support and oppose cloning. Those in favor of cloning justify it for its therapeutic applications. However, the opposition cite the physical or ethical problems that may result through cloning. Presently the main issues that circulate the controversy of cloning are the risks of reproductive cloning and the regulation of therapeutic cloning
