소개글
Paivio(1971)는 단어보다 그림이 더 잘 기억된다는 시각적 기억 전략 이론을 통해 시각이 기억에 미치는 효과에 대해 연구하였다. 하지만 이러한 연구는 정안인(정상적인 시각을 가진 사람)을 대상으로 연구된 학문이라 할 수 있다. ‘그렇다면 시각이 아닌 촉각을 활용하여 정보를 탐색하는 시각장애인에게는 이러한 이론들이 적용될 수 없는 것일까?’라는 문제의식을 가지고 본 연구를 진행하였다.목차

본문내용
정안인은 정보를 탐색할 때 시각에 의존해 메시지를 탐독 하지만 정상적인 시각을 갖고 있지 않은 시각장애인의 경우는 시각이 아닌 촉각에 의존해 메시지를 탐독하게 된다. 시각을 통해 습득하는 정보에 대해 문자보다는 그림이 더 잘 기억된다는 Paivio(1971)의 연구는 여러 학자들에 의해 지지되고 증명 되었지만, 시각장애인처럼 촉각에 의해 정보를 탐색하고 이해하고 기억하는 문제에 대해 연구된 논문은 찾아보기 어려웠다. 즉 “시각적 기억 전략”은 지지 되었지만 “촉각적 기억 전략”에 대해서는 연구 된 논문을 찾을 수 없었다.따라서 시각장애인들의 학습 효과를 높이기 위한 전략을 수립하는데 많은 어려움이 있고, 시각장애인을 위한 학습 교재나 교육 기자재를 만드는 일에 이론적 근거를 마련하지 못해 어려움을 겪고 있다. 본 연구는 촉각적 기억 전략 또한 시각적 기억 전략과 같이 문자보다는 그림이 더 잘 기억 될 수 있을 것인지를 밝혀 보고자 하는 의도에서 시작된 것이다.
