이 연구는 서사 텍스트를 읽어주었을 때와 스스로 읽었을 때 보이는 학습자의 다양한 반응양상을 살피는 데 목적이 있다. 반응의 양상은 읽기 과정을 구성하는 세 요소인 ‘독자, 텍스트, 맥락’으로 나누어 살폈다.
학습자의 발달 단계상 ‘듣는 독자’로서 3학년 학습자를 대상으로 읽어주기 실험을 실시하였다. 반응 분석의 대상은 읽어주기 담화 녹음 전사 자료, 스스로 읽기의 사고기술 프로토콜 전사 자료, 반응 기록지 그리고 학습자들의 일기 글이다. 이러한 반응 자료들을 먼저 수집하고 그 반응을 기술, 분석, 해석하는 질적 연구방법을 따랐다.
학습자의 반응 양상은 대체로 읽어주기에서 독자 지향적 반응과 맥락 지향적 반응이 많았고, 스스로 읽기에서는 텍스트 지향적 반응이 많았다. 이 연구의 의의로는 경험적으로 좋다고 여기던 ‘동화 읽어주기’에 대해 체계적인 분석을 시도한 점, 읽어 주기에 적합한 텍스트를 선별해야함을 발견한 점, 교사의 해석적 거리가 학습자들의 서사 수용에 큰 영향을 미친다는 점이다.
요컨대, 이 연구는 서사 텍스트 읽어주기에 따른 학습독자로서 각 학습자들이 보인 반응을 분석하여 질적으로 해석함으로써 향후 문학 교수·학습 과정과 읽기 교수·학습 과정의 소통을 위한 일연구로서 의의를 가진다.

영어 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the responses of learners when someone read aloud a narrative text for them and when they read it by themselves. A reading process consisted of three components including reader, text and context, and whether the response of the selected learners were reader－oriented, text－oriented or context－oriented was checked.
The subjects in this study were third－grade learners who were in the developmental stage of being a reader as a listener. An experiment was implemented by reading narrative texts aloud for them and letting them read for themselves. The analyzed data involved the transcribed materials of recording tapes of the discourse in the listening process, the transcribed materials of their thinking skills protocol during reading alone, their written responses and diaries. After the data were gathered, a qualitative research was conducted by describing, analyzing and interpreting their responses.
The findings of the study were as follows： During the experiment of reading aloud for them, reader－oriented and context－oriented responses were prevailing among the learners, and textoriented responses were dominant when they read alone. This study was meaningful in that it made a systematic analysis of reading fairy tales aloud, which has typically been viewed as one of good reading activities. Another meaning of the study lies in justifying the necessity of the careful selection of texts appropriate for reading aloud and in finding out the great impact of the interpretation of teachers on the narrative reception of learners.
In a word, this study attempted to analyze and interpret the responses of learners as student readers toward different types of narrative text reading in order to build the foundation for literary education and reading teachinglearning process.
