This study was carried out in order to help children solve the problems which they might face and to get the Bibliotherapy to become more popular by applying the Bibliotherapy. This case study has been executed for 3 third grade girls in an elementary school, children of low income-divorced families at A social welfare organization, and this test has been done twice a week, 50 to 90 minutes each time, and 15 times all together.
The result of the Bibliotherapy conducted by these children can be summarized as follows.
First, the Bibliotherapy helped the children from low income-divorced families become prosocial developed.
The research indicates that children have got better marks from the test to check their prosocial behavior. The result of Kim So-young, one of the recipient, increased from 15 to 21, Shin Hea-Kyoung's from 14 to 18 and Yoon Joo-hyun's from 25 to 27.
The test meets with good result of observation of the children's behavior during counselling. Through the program, the children show improvement in terms of their behavior such as tending to praise each other and in taking careful concern for others, friends and family members. Even continuous direct or indirect effects can be expected since they have been through the program to be prosocialized, experiencing a simulation - take a role to pretend to be disabled, learning how to cook and share foods and making a party for fellows.
Second, it is proved that various material and activities running parallel with the Bibliotherapy is also effective.
The recipients showed differences in ability and interest of reading. Especially, the children with little interest in reading will participate less. Depending on characteristics and the degree of seriousness of problems the children have, they find it difficult to express themselves. In this case, multiple materials are used in role playing exercises to help the children express themselves in dealing with rejection.
This program also helps the children face their problems and be able to solve them out by themselves.
