Abstract
The purpose of this research was to offer a basic material for the curriculum which involves the physical activities of the pre-schoolers with visual impairment. In order to do this, this research explores the way in which the gross motor ability varies according to the degree of visual impairment. The sampling objects of the research were selected from students who do not participate in any regular physical program; 8 normal preschoolers, 8 low vision preschoolers, and 8 blinded preschoolers. Using TGMD-2(Test of Gross Motor Development-2) by Ulrich, I observed the gross motor ability demonstrated in the areas of locomotor and object control.
The results were as follows. Firstly, there were significant differences in the area of locomotor, such as running, galloping, hopping, leaping, horizontally jumping. Secondly, significant differences were also observed in the area of object control, such as striking stationary balls, stationary dribbling, kicking, catching, and throwing overhand.
As above, I observed that the gross motor ability was affected by visual impairment. However I acknowledge that with restricted test tools there is limitations in exploring the gross motor ability precisely. Hence it is suggested to examine the gross motor ability more accurately with an ecological assesment model which involves the exterior environmental elements of the children.
