한국어 초록

한국교회는 1884년 이 땅에 기독교가 들어온 이래 지난 1세기 동안에 많은
발전을 거듭하여 왔다. 한국교회의 이 같은 외적인 성장은 세계 모든 교회가
인정하고 있으며 경탄했다. 그러나 부흥일로의 한국교회가 이제는 쇠퇴와 둔
화의 과정을 거치게 되었다. 천만의 성도를 자랑하던 한국교회는 이제 860만
의 성도라는 엄청난 마이너스 성장을 인정할 수밖에 없게 되었다. 따라서 현
재 한국교회가 왜 이렇게 그리고 어떻게 쇠퇴 하게 되었는가를 되돌아볼 필요
가 있다.
한국 초대교회 성장의 주요한 원동력은 기도였다. 교회를 성장시키려는 목
회자와 열심히 신앙생활을 하려는 신자들은 기도가 신앙생활의 중심이 되어
있었다고 말할 수 있다. 대부분의 평신도들은 일상생활 속에서 삶의 과정에
필요한 모든 소원과 욕구를 성취시키기 위해 철야기도를 하거나 금식기도 또
는, 작정기도를 행해 왔다. 그러나 지금 현대 기독교인들에게는 그런 모습을
찾아보기 힘들다.
우리는 이 시점에서 기도의 참 뜻을 생각해볼 필요가 있다. 기도의 참 뜻은
간구함으로써 하나님께로부터 삶의 욕구만을 얻어내는 수단이 아니라는 것이
다. 기도는 하나님께서 우리에게 기본적으로 주시고자 하는 것을 받아들이는
통로와 시간을 여는 것이지 우리의 필요와 요구를 관철시키는 하나의 수단이
아니라는 것이다. 기도를 하나님께 드린다거나 기도하는 성도가 된다는 것은
하나님께 자기가 원하는 것을 얻는 과정이 아니라는 것이다. 즉, 필요한 모든
내용을 얻어내려는 고집스런 수단이 기도가 아니라는 것이다. 기도는 하나님
의 계획과 섭리에 순종하는 것이다. 한국교회는 바로 이런 참된 기도를 잃어
버렸기 때문에 깊은 침체와 마이너스 성장을 극복하지 못하고 있는 실정이다.
이것이 필자가 본 논문을 진술하고 있는 기본적인 생각이다.
따라서 본 연구는 먼저, 한국교회 성장을 방해하는 요인들에 대해 교회 내
부적인 요소와 외부적인 요소로 나누어 생각해 보았다. 그리고 기도의 참된
의미가 무엇이며, 신구약 성경에 나타난 인물들의 기도를 살펴보았다. 또한
기도의 신학적, 성경적 근거를 통해 참된 기도가 무엇이며 참된 교회공동체란
무엇인지를 밝히고자 하였다. 이는 한국교회 성장의 정체성을 극복하기 위해
서 교회론 부터 재정립의 필요성이 있다는 판단에서 비롯되었다. 따라서 기도
공동체로서 교회의 성경적 이해와 신학적, 역사적 이해를 연구하게 되었다.
이렇게 기도공동체로서 교회를 이해하게 되면서 자연스럽게 기도가 교회
성장에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구로 확장하게 되었다. 성경에 나타난 교회성장
을 연구하면서 교회의 영적인 성장과 기도의 상관관계 그리고 교회의 외적 성
장과 기도의 상관성을 고찰하였다. 성경에 나타난 교회의 성장은 기도가 자리
하고 있었다. 기도 없이 성장이 없었고, 기도가 약화되면 성장은 정체된다는
사실을 확인하게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 그렇다면 한국교회에 어떻게 참된
기도회를 배설할 것인가에 이르게 된 것이다.
그러므로 본 연구는 교회성장을 위한 기도로서 기도훈련 방법을 모색하였
다. 그리고 실제로 각 지교회에서 기도회를 실시할 수 있도록, 모든 성도들이
개인적이면서 소그룹 그리고 연합하여 기도할 수 있는 기도 프로그램의 실제
방법과 함께 운영 방법을 소개하였다.
모쪼록 한국 초대교회가 가졌던 그 역동적인 기도가 다시금 이 땅에서 재현
되고 부흥의 불길이 솟아나는 한국교회를 소망한다. 다시금 한국교회의 성장
이 세계를 놀라게 할 것을 기대하면서 참된 기도운동을 적극 도입할 것을 강
력하게 촉구하는 것으로 본 논문의 목적을 삼고 기대를 걸었다.

영어 초록

Ever since Christianity set foot in Korea in 1884, the Korean
churches have been experiencing much development over the past
century. All churches worldwide have recognized and praised the
Korean churches’ external development. However, the Korean
churches have now moved from spiritual revival to a progress of
degradation and dullness. The Korean churches which have had
ten million sincere Christians can now only acknowledge the
enormous degeneration of 8.6 million. It is important to reflect on
why and how the modern Korean churches have deteriorated to
this extent.
The important moving factor of the Korean churches’ growth
was prayer. Prayer was the focus of spiritual life of pastors who
put all their energy in church development and Christians who did
their best in living a pious life. The majority of Christians
participated in late night prayers, fasting and planned prayers in
order to fulfill the daily necessities and desires in their life.
However, these kinds of acts are hard to find in today’s Christians.
We must consider the true meaning of prayer from this point of
view. The true meaning of prayer is not a means of satisfying life’s
desires through pleading with God. Prayer is not a way to fulfill
our needs and desires, but it opens up a way and time for us to
accept what God planned to give us. Praying to God or becoming
a praying Christian is not a way of getting what you want from
God. Praying is not a stubborn way of getting all the necessary
information. Prayer is obeying God’s plan and providence. It is
because the Korean churches have lost this kind of true prayer that
they are unable to overcome deep stagnation and degeneration.
This is the writer’s main thought on the subject.
The research considered the outward and inward factors that
contributed to the hindrance of the Korean churches’ growth. Also,
it studied what the true meaning of prayer was and the prayers of
people in the New Testament. It focused on revealing what a true
prayer was through theological and Biblical evidences and what a
true church community was. It made the judgment that the need
to reform the doctrines of the church in order to overcome church
growth stagnation was there. Due to this, research was done on
understanding the church as a praying community from a Biblical,
theological and historical stance.
When understanding of the church as a praying community
increased, research on the effects of prayer for church growth
naturally followed. As research on church growth found in the
Bible was done, the mutual relationship between the church’s
spiritual growth and prayer and the relationship between the
church’s outward growth and prayer were observed. Prayer took
the main spot in church development found in the Bible. No prayer
meant no growth and weakened prayer meant diminished growth.
Following this, research came to focus on how the Korean
churches should apply to true prayer.
Hence, the said research searched for a method to teach how to
pray for church growth. In order for each local church to start
prayer meetings and that all Christians may come together
individually yet as a small group to pray, an applicable and
manageable form of a prayer program was introduced.
It is desired that the powerful prayers that the early Korean
churches had would once again appear on this land and that
Korean churches would start a blazing trail of revival. Surprising
the world once again through the growth of Korean churches is
eagerly awaited and strongly seeking after true prayer is the main
message’s goal and desire.
